It has finally warmed up enough to begin work again. I am in the process of having our pastures, and vegetable garden areas with the final stump clearing and grading done. The next process will be to plow, organically fertilize, plant, and fence. I am having ther 1/2 mile driveway re-graded and graveled, and I have just gone to contract with a local contractor to begin restoring our main house and to build a large addition to house additional bedrooms and bathrooms.

I just picked up our first 100 baby chicks. I have Rhode Island Reds (for your brown eggs)and Bardrocks. I love watching them grow. They are just 4 days old and it will be weeks before I begin to see eggs but I will post it once I have enough free range  organic eggs for sale. I will add 100 chicks each month through the fall. I will be having freshly butchered and dressed organically raised chickens as well as smoked chickens later this spring. You may special order yours. The first 4 of the baby goats will arrive in 3 weeks, followed shortly by sheep, baby pigs, turkeys, geese, and ducks.

This  is a full time and rewarding job and I have never felt more alive.

The chicken house was finished this week and the chicks who are growing very quickly are happy in their new home. They will be able to begin foraging in the yard and gardens fairly soon.

A friend and nearby farmer Joe Foster who uses organic practices came over today and pruned the fruit trees so now we can see what we actually have and hopefully will produce some fruit this year. Thanks Joe!  He sells his produce, flowers, and grape cuttings at the farmers market each year, so when visiting the farmers market stop in and visit him.

Every morning I awaken, I am in awe of the beauty that surrounds me. Each day brings a new surprise as to what is blooming. I believe spring is my favorite time of year.

I got out my new tiller yesterday and began tilling the area I plan to use for the herb and flower gardens. I am planting Mammoth Sunflowers along the wall of the old tractor shed so there will be plenty of seeds for the birds this winter. I may even roast some and have them available in the farm store.

I have received over 1500 visitors to this site since January 1st and many emails and phone calls for an interest in the farm store. Thanks for all of your support and I assure you that I am working as quickly as I can to get this up and running. Just like you I am looking forward to the fresh produce, fruit, herbs, eggs, and meats. There is nothing better than fresh and herbicide free food.

Please check back often to view our list of available produce. I am picking up our baby chicks, baby pigs, and goats this next week. It will still be several weeks until we are ready to open our farm store, but rest assured we are hard at work, and if  the weather cooperates we should be ready to go in April.
