Please call 434) 454 - 6915 to book your special event. It has been a busy winter so far. We have cleared much of our acreage to prepare our pasture areas for the cattle, and for our additional orchard space. The vegetable garden areas had become overgrown as the land lay unused over the past 15 years and have now been cleared once again. We have had an unusual amount of rain the past couple of months which has slowed down our progress, but as soon as the land is dry enough everything is to be plowed, fertilized, and planted. We have managed to prune our existing fruit trees, and to work on the interior of the house. I experienced the first smowfall in years and became a child all over again. As much as we are enjoying the winter we look forward to spring with great anticipation. I understand that we have hundereds of bulbs and flowers already existing and what a joy it will be to see everything come back in full bloom. I think this is one of the most beautiful areas of the country I have ever seen. Even though it was necessary to clear much of our land we have left huge shade trees in the pasture areas, and maintained the surrounding forests at our ponds and streams. The next step is to fence and cross fence.
SPRING FLING ON THE FARM
The official opening of Giant Oaks Farm and Orchard on site farm store, farm tours, and special activities for the entire family throughout the coming year. Call for information 434) 454-6915 I am sorry but we are forced due to the weather to postpone our Spring Fling until May. I will update this page with a new date as soon as I can schedule one. Coming in May Free Event Begins at Noon until 9:00 pm from Monday through Saturday. Every day will be filled with fun activities for all ages. We will begin with the historical tour of our farm including the barns, smoke house, the Circa 1830 main house, the original 1700's settlers cabin, a nature walk to the ponds and babbling brook, our petting zoo area, kids crafts, sack races, apple bobbing, pie eating contest, and loads of fun. On Friday and Saturday we will continue with the daily fun but as the evening approaches we will have Live Blue Grass Music, a campfire, roasted hot dogs and marshmallows. Of course our farm stand will be open with jams, jellies, relishes, fresh baked goods and homemade candies, in addition to produce and herbs of the season. We will be taking orders for Sugar Cured Hams and Applewood Smoked Bacon during the week. Erica is famous for her sweet potatoe souffle and will have samplings available in addition to her cakes, pies, and candies for special holiday orders. May you all have a safe, blessed and Happy Easter. Once again due to the set backs of a harsh winter we have fallen way behind and have had to cancel our Easter Plans. But we will be having our Grand Opening in mid May. Please check back for the exact dates. Our farm will be open for tours during those hours. We are closed on Sunday. It is our goal to provide a safe, fun environment for the family to enjoy a day of farm living and getting back to nature.
Erica will be hosting several farm cooking classes throughout the year using fresh herbs from the herb garden, baking classes, share her special recipes, canning classes, hand quilting, and country crafts for the Holidays.
